Comes with Several Ear Fit Options (Ace)

September 13th, 2010 by pilek

While Aliph was announcing its luxurious Jawbone Icon Bluetooth headsets earlier today, we’ve been playing with one of its six designs  — The Ace — at our cozy London pad. Being the smallest and lightest Jawbone ever, the Icon’s obviously challenging the likes of Jabra Stone  with attempts to outperform in noise elimination, battery life, ergonomics and ease of operation. On paper, the Icon already wins on battery life and price, although the Stone has a charging dock good for six extra hours. What really matters, though, is the usability — something the Stone had little of in a noisy environment. Read on to find out if Aliph has done it right.

Motorola Rokr S9 HD

August 19th, 2010 by pilek

When Motorola came out with the Motorola Rokr S9 headset two years ago, stereo Bluetooth headsets were still fairly new, and the S9 gained popularity because of its sports-centric design. Now that more phones have stereo Bluetooth capability (including the iPhone 3G, thanks to its latest firmware update), Motorola is wise to keep hammering away at making new headsets, like the Motorola Rokr S9 HD. It has a similar design to the S9, but is equipped with higher fidelity sound for your music-listening needs. We quite like the sound quality and the fit was OK, but it doesn’t handle sports activity as well as we would like. The Motorola Rokr S9 HD retails for $99.99 but you can find it for as low as $60. The Rokr S9 HD comes with a Motorola D650 iPod adapter. Read the rest of this entry »

Highway noise and revving engines are no match for the Motorola H620. It makes calls from your car clearer by reducing road noise and canceling echoes. You will also hear better, since volume automatically adjusts as road noise changes. A rapid car charger is included to keep you powered up on the go, and the dashboard headset holder keeps the H620 within reach. So you’re free to hit the road, knowing your conversations won’t take a back seat. Read the rest of this entry »

Aliph Jawbone 2

August 12th, 2010 by pilek

Like the first Jawbone, the Aliph Jawbone 2 was designed by renowned industrial designer Yves Behar, and it shows. Instead of the perforated front of its predecessor, the Jawbone 2 has a beveled diamond pattern all along the front, which results in a three-dimensional texture that glides smoothly under our fingers. The big difference from its predecessor, however, is its size. The Jawbone 2 is almost 50 percent smaller than the original, measuring 2 inches long by 0.5 inch wide by 0.5 inch thick and weighing 0.35 ounce. Read the rest of this entry »

Samsung WEP870

August 5th, 2010 by pilek

Have you ever heard of the dual-purpose cow? As the name suggests, it gives you both beef and milk. But some folks argue that a dual-purpose cow generally cannot produce outstanding milk and outstanding beef–in other words, a cow should deliver one or the other, not both. And that leads me to the $90 (price as of 9/16/09), dual-purpose Samsung WEP870. It’s both a mono Bluetooth headset and a stereo Bluetooth headset. The mono part is a stick-like headset with an earloop; to convert the piece into a stereo device, you attach the earbud lanyard and then place both earbuds in your ears, while the headset itself dangles somewhere on your chest. Like those people who don’t believe in a dual-purpose cow, I’m not in favor of the dual-purpose approach on exhibit in the WEP870. Read the rest of this entry »

Motorola H780

July 22nd, 2010 by pilek

Motorola has been touting its CrystalTalk noise-cancellation technology for a while now, first in its own handsets and most recently in its latest line of Bluetooth headsets. Its current star headset is the Motorola Pure H15, which we’ve reviewed already, but if you wish to save a little for a less sexy model, Motorola is offering the Motorola H780. It still has that CrystalTalk technology, but is much more business-like in appearance, and has more talk time as well. While we were not completely blown away by the audio quality, we still gave the H780 marks for its noise suppression and comfortable fit. The Motorola H780 is available now for $99. Aliph: Jawbone ICON Bluetooth Headset for iPhone 4

June 28th, 2010 by pilek

According to Aliph — the company that makes that sexy Jawbone Bluetooth headsets — their customers love the iPhone and the other way round – iPhone users want a Jawbone headset. To prove the claim, they conducted a consumer research in April 2010 only to find out that 42% of Jawbone users with a smartphone use an iPhone, up from 33% a year ago. Conversely, more than 15% of iPhone users with a Bluetooth headset own a Jawbone, up from 12% in 2009. To be honest I’m not sure these are the real figures, but alas, that’s another story.
